Observatory Construction

The new observatory 'Himmelwarte' spring 2010...

...with more space under the roof.

The sliding roof moves on stainless steel tracks down to the grass...

Here opened...

Before one closes the roof one has to align the two labels on the mount in order to prevent the damage of the scope... The scope just fits into the roof!

A view from the back towards the south sky allows the observation above 30 degrees declination in the dark 'Jurassic Park'...

The free construction is made of aluminium (by the Schweizer AG), isolated against condensation with 3cm thick foam layers and is linked to steelwires, driven by two 220V engines.

The roof is connected to steelwires and two 220V engines. The roofwheels are guided by stainless steeltracks, which are mounted on the walls of the observatory.

One of the 220V winchmotors pulls theoretically 250kg each...

How it starts... the first version of observatory under a layer of fresh snow in January 2006, entirely protected outside and inside...
